Closure of Coty Cosmetics plant

The cosmetics giant, Coty, today announced the closure of its North Tipperary plant in Nenagh with the loss of 200 jobs. It said that operations are set to wind down at the former Proctor and Gamble site by the end of 2018. The company explained in their statement that the proposal was “the result of a detailed study of global manufacturing capacities”. County Tipperary Chamber of Commerce are disappointed to hear of the loss of a substantial employer in North Tipperary, and are concerned at the damage to the local economy, both directly to employees and through the impact to other  local companies.
We welcome comments in the media today by Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor who said that her department, Enterprise Ireland and the IDA are out there looking and fighting for new business to come into Ireland.  We would encourage those agencies to focus that effort on finding a suitable replacement employer for the Tipperary region.
