County Tipperary Chamber Skillnet continues to evolve our online training offerings and our funded training supports to companies within the Tipperary Region via funding from Skillnet Ireland.

We specialise in facilitating training in the areas of Management Development, Leadership, Professional Skills, amongst other courses. We also provide a wide range of funded or co-funded QQI accredited training courses, personal and professional development programmes, seminars and workshops.

The Secure Building of Memorials (SBM) course aims to improve the skills of those working in the heritage sector. It is useful for both experienced professionals and newcomers. Participants will learn important principles, methods, and ethical standards for building and maintaining memorials.

Course Objectives

  • Analyse the evolution and cultural implications of memorial practices globally, highlighting their role in heritage preservation.
  • Cultivate an understanding of ethical considerations, professionalism, and the utmost respect required in memorial construction and maintenance.
  • Appreciate the diversity of cultural and religious beliefs surrounding memorials, fostering an inclusive approach to their construction and commemoration.
  • Acquire specialised knowledge in the secure construction of memorials, including foundational stability, material durability, and aesthetic considerations.
  • Explore various protective measures and technologies employed to ensure the longevity and integrity of memorials against environmental and human-induced factors.
  • Develop knowledge in respect off traditional and contemporary memorialisation practices, understanding their significance in commemorating history and individuals.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of geological and technical factors influencing memorial construction, including site selection and material suitability.
  • Evaluate the environmental impact of memorial construction, promoting sustainable practices that work in tandem with natural landscapes.
  • Understand the role of memorials in facilitating public engagement with heritage, and their contribution to the grieving and healing processes.
  • Master the application of Health & Safety regulations specific to memorial construction sites, ensuring safe practices for workers and visitors.
  • Emphasise the importance of Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP) in managing risks and ensuring safety in memorial construction projects.
  • Provide Manual Handling Training tailored to the unique demands of constructing and maintaining memorials, focusing on the prevention of occupational injuries

Please note that all courses will be conducted contingent upon funding being received and achieving a sufficient number of enrolled learners. If the minimum enrolment threshold is not met, the course may be postponed or cancelled. Enrolled learners will be notified of any changes in a timely manner.


Training Cancellation Policy

Training courses which are cancelled over 7 days in advance of scheduled training date shall incur no cancellation fee. Training courses which are cancelled within 7 days of scheduled training date shall incur a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the cost. Registrants who give less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend training will be charged 100% of the full fee.
